Ride Description
We are repeating this route from 2009.  We have routed it on roads we typically ride on clubs rides.  We went for utility on our first brevet, keeping the route close to Pittsburgh.

The route starts just outside Pittsburgh.  We first pass through Pittsburgh’s Strip District, cut across downtown, and then climb Mt. Washington via Sycamore Street, in tribute to the Thrift Drug Classic.  After an overlook of the three rivers and downtown Pittsburgh, we head west via Carnegie to West Virginia.  Crossing the river at East Liverpool, we loop back via Beaver, Rochester, Zelienople, Evans City, and Mars.  The course is sparse on convenience stores the first 40 miles, but has more options after that.  Eclectic sights on the route include the World’s Largest Teapot and the Shippingsport nuclear power plant.  Note that the route spends a short time on Rt 30 and good deal of time on Rt 68, which are moderate traffic two lane roads – Don’t say I didn’t warn you..  The course has many pleasant roads as well. The course is rolling terrain in Western PA fashion, which means many hills, some steep, but no single hill is over 500 ft of vertical climb.  Don’t be surprised if you hit a 17% climb around mile 96.

General Info
This ride is a randonneur style event sanctioned by RUSA.  Western Pennsylvania Wheelmen  club membership is required in order to participate ($17 per year).  In the spirit of pure randonneuring, minimal support is provided before, during, and after the ride.
