Pittsburgh Randonneurs
Pittsburgh Spring Brevet - "Spring Brevet C 200 km"
Saturday March 31, 2012
Ride Description
We have reworked the spring brevet - the course is about the same shape, but the
controls are in new towns - Avella, Midland, Evans City. Expect at least one more cue
sheet revision. Note we are leaving at 7:15 AM to hit sunrise. This course is admittedly
utilitarian and expect to travel on many state roads with traffic (such as Routes, 50, 18,
168, 68). The scenic highlight is the Shippensport Nuclear Power Plant, which you see up
close and personal.
Warning! Also this is in the "Sensible Spring" Series, it has more climbing than the RUSA
guideline of 5000 ft climbing per 200 km. (My GPS reported about 7951). In particular,
most of the hills above 10% grade are in the last 45 miles. Between Rochester and
Zelienople is a long slog up. Between Mars and my house are more hills, including a last
10% hill into my neighborhood. Try to get "time in the bank" (i.e. ahead of control time) by
Control 3.
The cue sheet is the definitive course definition. I have not updated the map and profle to
the latest revision.
